White Lies at Cat's Cradle 2/21/14

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Last Friday, the girls and I ventured out to Cat's Cradle to see a band none of us were too familiar with, White Lies. We arrived around 9, just in time to grab a few beers and find a spot standing among the substantial crowd that had already gathered in front of the stage.

The lights dimmed and the band began to play its upbeat melodies laced with haunting lyrics. We compared their sound to that of Interpol and welcomed the presence of the keyboard/synthesizer that added a unique variable to their songs.

According to the bands official website, their newest CD, Big TV, which features songs like, "There Goes Our Love Again" came out this summer.

There is no denying that the highlight of the set for us was when the band switched the mood up a bit and did an insane cover of Prince's "I Would Die 4 U". After they were done you could tell by the roar of the crowd that the Cradle approved. Brian Lange, of Soundblab reviewed the bands recent show in Philadelphia and cited the engagement of the group's fan base as an indication of how connected White Lies is to their music. Watching their show at Cat's Cradle, we noticed a very similar vibe. Lange also pointed out how amazing White Lies' live performance is and we could not agree more.

We were interested to hear from lead singer, Harry McVeigh, that this was the groups first time in NC, but I would predict it won't be their last as their fan base continues to grow. After last Friday, they added three new fans to their already solid base.
