5 Live Venues You Should Know About

Monday, February 17, 2014

A surprisingly unique variety of artists are constantly playing live gigs in the Triangle area - it just takes a bit of digging to know where to see them. We've scoped out the city and found five venues that'll cater to all music tastes.

1. Cat's Cradle
Carrboro, NC

Cat's Cradle is the triangles claim to fame as far as the music scene goes, constantly booking the best up and coming musicians. This venue is known for being the best place to catch a great show just before the artist starts selling out arenas.

2. Duke Coffeehouse
Durham, NC

Coffee by day, rock shows by night. This tiny venue, covered in shocking graffiti and stickers, is always booking the most unique and alternative artists.

3. Local 506
Chapel Hill, NC

This small venue located on the infamous Franklin Street in Chapel Hill is a fabulous place to check out the independent musicians in the area.

4. Red Hat Amphitheater
Raleigh, NC

Red Hat is the largest venue that made the list - featuring big artists in 2013 like Bob Dylan and The National. Being an outdoor venue, it's calendar tends to be more exciting during warmer months.

5. Lincoln Theatre
Raleigh, NC

Located right on the outskirts of downtown Raleigh, Lincoln theatre tends to book a good mix of indie and well-known artists. It's charmingly dingy atmosphere is the perfect setting for a live show.

These venues are just a small taste of what's out in the Triangle - but they're an awesome place to start if you're new to the music scene.
